An outlet is a pass that originates from a player who has recently acquired the basketball (usually) by rebound or by turnover. The player passes to a teammate who then advances the ball up the court. Generally the rebounder will have defenders around him who had also gone after the rebound. The outlet pass allows the team to get into transition and for a quality ballhandler to get the offense moving.
